COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

We see the local community as our partner in trying to make this paradise more enjoyable and satisfying for all who are part of it. That is why one of our main objectives is to participate and contribute to the community around us.

HERE ARE SOME PROJECTS WE HAVE DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS

ENGLISH CLASSES
In the surroundings there are 15 boys from 5 to 12 years old who attend the local school. However, there is only one teacher around and all the boys are in the same class with the same basic curriculum. That is why local families send their children to this school only if there is no other possibility. Together with our volunteer program we have offered the boys a unique opportunity to learn English with native and fluent speakers, which is an exceptional privilege in the educational system of Colombia.

.

The exchange of culture and language was a magical experience for both the boys and the volunteers:

LOCAL COMMUNITY COUNCIL
For many years the local community council did not function. When we first started working with the local community, we understood that to achieve our purposes we need to join with the local community using the existing formal structure. Well, together with other interested neighbors, we reestablished the community council.

The elected council became operational in July 2016. Since then we have carried out delayed projects and established new community projects such as road reconstruction, the single mother support program, roadside clean-up days and much more.

COMMUNAL WORKING DAYS

several months the community meets and carries out projects such as:

  • road repair

  • cleaning of the community surroundings

    maintenance of water systems

FREE ORGANIC FARMING CLASSES

When we found out that the Anapoima city council has a small department that offers free technical support for farmers who are oriented towards organic farming, we got together with them to form a group of local farmers who meet every week to learn about organic agriculture and thus create a more environmentally responsible and more socially active community.

YOGA AND MUSIC CLASSES

You probably already know the benefits of yoga: relaxation, stress reduction, mental clarity, better breathing management, coordination and physical strengthening. However, yoga is not just for adults ... yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, size or level of experience in the practice. During this year we immerse the children of the local school in a fun and spontaneous activity; They visited our farm, danced and did stretching exercises. With the collaboration of the talented musician Sam Skalà, we were able to incorporate music into the activity which helped calm the senses and bring calm to the children to encourage their free expression and honor themselves (which is something that each of us I could practice in this hectic world we live in.)

It was incredibly positive and moving to see the smiles on the children's faces throughout the day, to see them work as a team, and shake hands with each other to learn new skills. We plan to continue doing more activities like this in order to strengthen our relationship with the local community, as well as bring joy to children whose quality of life is not so privileged.
